Young Talent from Lebap Recognized Internationally

Mekan Nurgeldiyew, a student of Specialized Secondary School No. 41 in Türkmenabat and a participant at the Türkmenabat branch of the "Kämil bilim" Learning Center, took fourth place at the World Mental Calculation Championship for teenagers held in Bielefeld, Germany. This result is the highest achievement among the members of the Turkmen national team who participated in the competition.

According to the rules of the championship, participants competed to solve math questions from nearly 30 pages covering 23 topics, all from memory, within a time limit of 2 hours. They were also given additional tasks in 5 other topics.

More than 100 teenagers from 20 countries — including France, the Czech Republic, Japan, India, Mexico, Egypt, the UAE, and South Africa — took part in the championship. The Turkmen students competed in the under-12 and 12–15 age groups, and two of them succeeded in placing among the top 10. One of them was our fellow citizen Mekan Nurgeldiyew.

Moreover, Mekan didn’t just make it into the top four — he was also one of the few participants who scored over 2,000 points, a mark considered to reflect a high level of mastery. In addition, Liwanur Berdiyeva, a student at Specialized Secondary School No. 87 in Ashgabat, ranked sixth in the 12–15 age category. She also surpassed the 2,000-point benchmark, showcasing her high academic performance.
