A powerful earthquake in northern Afghanistan affected dozens of lives

According to local health authorities, 150 people were injured.

At least four people were killed and dozens more were injured as a result of the strong earthquake in the north of the country.

This was reported by Afghanistan International, citing Report.

A representative of the governor of Balkh Province said that the epicenter of the natural disaster was located in the Sholgara district. The fatalities were registered in that area.

The publication does not rule out that the death toll may rise significantly. CNN, citing experts, also reported that the earthquake could cause “a large number of casualties.”

Videos shared on social media show widespread destruction.

It is noted that the 6.3-magnitude quake struck at 01:28 Ashgabat time, about 45 km southeast of Mazar-i-Sharif in Balkh Province.

In August 2025, another 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan, killing more than 2,200 people.
