On September 29, a regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Minsk.
The meeting was attended by the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan; Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, H. Geldimyradov; and CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, M. Grigoryan, participated via video link.
The agenda included 15 items. In a narrow-format session, the heads of government exchanged views on key areas of economic cooperation within the Commonwealth and discussed and approved the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the CIS for 2026–2035.
Participants also considered a draft Strategy for the digitalization of multimodal transport corridors of CIS member states. This Strategy is aimed at further digitizing the transportation systems of the member states, improving logistics operations, reducing costs, increasing the speed and transparency of cargo shipments, and ensuring environmental sustainability.
In addition, the Strategy for Cooperation in the Development of the Information Society and Digital Economy until 2035, along with its implementation plan, was approved.
A plan of actions was adopted to implement the second phase of the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2030.
During the meeting, a plan of events was signed for organizing the “Year of Health” within the CIS in 2026.
Participants also discussed the financing of the creation and development of a joint air defense system of the CIS countries, the execution of the unified CIS budget, and the funding of the Interstate Program aimed at improving the quality of life of war veterans — including participants of local conflicts and their families.
Matters concerning the search for military personnel missing during the war in Afghanistan, identification of burial sites, discovery of remains, identification of individuals, and reburial in their homelands were also addressed.
The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government is scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in the first half of 2026.
