President of Turkmenistan Meets with UN Secretary-General in Awaza

On August 4, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedow met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in the national tourist zone “Awaza.” This was reported in the news program "Watan."

The President warmly welcomed the high-ranking guest to Turkmenistan and expressed gratitude to the UN Secretary-General for accepting the invitation to participate in the conference under the motto "Supporting Cooperation to Promote Development." He expressed confidence that the conference would help effectively implement the new Programme of Action adopted in December 2024 in the interests of landlocked countries.

Secretary-General António Guterres sincerely thanked the hosts for the warm reception and expressed great pleasure at being in Turkmenistan. He highly appreciated Turkmenistan’s active approach to addressing important contemporary issues and building multilateral cooperation based on long-term commitment and mutual respect. Guterres noted Turkmenistan’s significant experience in ensuring global peace, security, and sustainable development, highlighting the country’s role as an important and strategic partner of the UN.

The Secretary-General highly praised Turkmenistan’s efforts in organizing the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries at a high level and thanked the President on behalf of all UN representatives.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedow stated that the Turkmen side would continue to make every effort to ensure the successful conduct of the forum and wished it fruitful results.

During the meeting, both parties expressed confidence that this international event would be an important step toward achieving sustainable development, establishing connectivity, and creating transport corridors worldwide.
