Saparay Jomartova – Honored Carpet Weaver of Turkmenistan
By the decree signed by the President of Turkmenistan, a number of talented artisans who have made significant contributions to the development of national art were awarded the honorary title “Honored Carpet Weaver of Turkmenistan.” Among them are employees of the Halach Artistic Carpet Enterprise: Saparay Jomartova, Mahri Annamyradowa, and Chemen Rozyyewa.

This joyful news brought pride and happiness across the country. The Presidential Decree on conferring honorary titles to carpet weavers spread quickly throughout Turkmenistan. We also shared in the joy and interviewed one of the recipients — Saparay Jomartova.
“Carpet weaving is a family tradition,” says Saparay. “My mother, my two sisters Agabeg and Maya, and my sisters-in-law Gyzylgul and Ogulshat are all carpet weavers. From a young age, I helped them with weaving. It was my sister-in-law Gyzylgul Jomartova, a recipient of the ‘For Love of the Motherland’ medal, who taught me the fine details of carpet weaving with great dedication. That’s why, after finishing school and starting work at the enterprise, I was already confident in my skills.”
Saparay Jomartova has been weaving carpets at this enterprise for 26 years. Together with other women, she has created many national-patterned and gift carpets. In the Year of Peace and Trust, they completed various custom orders, crafting intricate designs into beautiful carpets.
— “Every year, we actively participate in the creative products competition held on Turkmen Carpet Day. Our works are consistently rated highly. Recently, we finished a white carpet with a fish-scale pattern and submitted it to the ‘Turkmen’s Golden Age’ competition announced by the President,” Saparaý says proudly.
At the end of our conversation, she added:
— “To be awarded the title of ‘Honored Carpet Weaver of Turkmenistan’ by the President on a holiday is a great honor that fills my heart with pride and motivates me to work even harder. I sincerely thank our President for valuing our hard work and wish him a long life, good health, and continued success in all his endeavors.”
